Over the past year or so I have been asking God how to usher the kids into His presence so they can experience Him and hear His voice. I always pictured it like a camp meeting where kids are under the power of Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues and crying at the altar. I guess that’s just what I’ve experienced and I figured that’s what it would look like.
This past Saturday at a prophetic training meeting I asked a ten year old boy from my kids ministry team, “What do you see Jesus doing in our Kids Church on a Sunday Morning?” He quickly and simply replied to me, “I see Him sitting in the front row listening.”
Whoa, take a minute and let that picture sink in. What does it speak to you?
My first response was, “Well, we should really ask Him if there’s anything else He’d like to do while He’s with us!”
Here I was, wanting Holy Spirit to come and speak to the kids, touch them, and encounter them. And here was Jesus, sitting in MY lesson, listening to ME teach.
I had invited Him in, and forgot to let Him do what He came to do. I prayed and asked Him to change the kids hearts and lives, but never gave him the time to do what He was there for.
“Where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.” Matthew 18:20
